Thad Doughty is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. He is the president and owner of the Doughty Law Firm and has been a practicing Attorney for over 30 Years. He practices in the areas of Personal Injury, Criminal, Civil Rights, Probate, Wrongful Death and other area of the law. He is a graduate of Mercer University Law School where he received his Juris Doctor in 1994. Thad has served as a public defender, state prosecutor and JAG officer. He also served as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of North Charleston for 14 years. He is a veteran of the United States Airforce and United States Army Reserves. He served as a JAG Officer for Twelve (12) years during his time in the United States Army Reserves.


Thad Doughty has received various community awards over the years and was also named to Charleston’s 40 under 40. He has served as a board member for Jenkins Orphanage and Goodwill. He is a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was also a charter member of the original 100 Black men of Charleston.


Thad is a monthly donor to St. Jude’s Hospital. He is annual sponsor of a Children’s Coat drive and Children’s Back to School supplies giveaway. He has also a yearly sponsor for the Low Country Juneteenth Events. He has contributed to scholarships at Claflin University and serves as a mentor at Laing Middle School. He also contributes to Toys for Tots.


Thad’s strives to provide quality professional legal services for all his clients. He established the Doughty Law Firm on April 10, 2000, after serving as a Public Defender and State Prosecutor.
